During 2006/07 Wilvale were proud to be awarded Charter Status from the Football Association. In order to achieve this award, the club had to meet strict criteria that amongst other things included:
• All the club’s managers attaining at least F.A. Level 1 Coaching Certificate.
• Implementation of all child welfare recommendations: including having a Child Welfare Officer and a clear code of conduct.
• All the club’s managers undergoing CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checks. Meeting the criteria required to achieve this award clearly demonstrates the club’s determination, and the dedication of its volunteers, to provide an enhanced standard of training and care for all of its players.
Endeavouring to ensure that training is as varied as is reasonably possible, thus giving players an environment in which to progress, we use the services of professional coaches for several sessions each season for all of our teams. This provides our managers’ with support in areas that they feel is of greatest benefit to their team.
We also recognise that a goalkeeper’s position requires unique skill sets that would greatly benefit from targeted training. Consequently, over the past few seasons we have arranged for all of the clubs goalkeepers to attend 10 weekly sessions with an ex professional goalkeeper.
In the past we have had several teams attending training sessions at Premier clubs, or have visited other countries on football tours, and have been taken on fun days out in order to enhance and improve team spirit, and of course to have fun. We also hold an annual presentation night where all players receive a trophy, with additional awards given in relation to specified categories.
Recognising the lack of outdoor facilities for young girls, in 2000 the club formed a netball section. Games are played on Saturdays, with training sessions held at Boswells School on Tuesday evening from 6.00pm-8.00pm.
To operate a club of this size requires many volunteers. As well as our managers and coaches, we have club officers consisting of a Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Secretaries for our affiliation with Chelmsford and Blackwater Leagues, Child Welfare Officer, Fixture/Pitch Allocations Secretary, and a Web Manager. However, with more volunteers we can improve and expand upon what we are able to offer. Even if you were only able to spare an average of half an hour per week, it would make an enormous difference. Wilvale Rangers is proud of its past and the sense of community that it has created, particularly within Chelmer Village and the surrounding areas, and is poised for the future. It is fantastic to see players enjoy the game and progress in terms of skill and confidence. If you have a child that may be interested in joining, then please contact the relevant manager for your child’s age. Team Managers
